Jeremy

Research Officer

Jeremy is an advocate who raises awareness for public health issues. He holds a master’s degree in public health from Kyoto University and master’s degree in food safety from National Taiwan University. After studying overseas for 7 years, he decided to permanently return to Malaysia to contribute to his motherland. The flight announcement, “To all Malaysians, welcome home,” still echoes in his mind until today.

He commenced his career in Malaysia by joining a research team that collaborates with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to develop a blueprint for the National Health Literacy Policy framework. During his work, he received feedback from stakeholders and the community who believed that these policies were mere paperwork and would never materialize. This realization led him to conclude that he should work with policymakers to keep the momentum going.

Consequently, he joined the Petaling Jaya parliamentary team, where he immersed himself in learning about policy implementation and collaborated directly with the community to make a social impact.

“Go big, or go home” is his motto, and he hopes to transform from being nobody to somebody in the future.

Heidi

Short term trainee

Hi, Heidi here!

I am a second year student of UiTM Raub, currently pursuing a Diploma in Public Administration. While interning with Parlimen Petaling Jaya’s vibrant office, I aim to explore the works involved in community service and the rudimentary of policymaking. In other times mostly, I work with Solidariti Pendidikan, an organisation I co-founded to expand the platform for student representation. We run programmes for student leadership empowerment and social media campaigns. It is my core belief that students should have more influence in decision-making!

In the coming years, I see myself undertaking studies in social policy and delving deeper into community service. Policies at large should make beneficial and tangible impacts on the grassroots. I hope my experience here can bridge my outlook between big policies and lived experiences of the rakyat. I’m grateful for this opportunity and hope my time here would make a solid pedestal to fulfil my long-term goal in giving back to Petaling Jaya’s community.

The connections run deep in the intertwined realms of politics and law, each sphere profoundly influencing the other. My guiding tenet is always to cherish the present, which resonates profoundly with Kazuo Inamori’s sagacious maxim: ‘Do good deeds and serve others unendingly.’ These principles inspire me to make the most of my time during my internship as I strive to make a meaningful and enduring contribution to the community.

Akshel

Short-term internship program

I’m Akshel, on summer break and going into the 3rd year of my Economics degree at the London School of Economics (LSE) and am on a short stint with the Petaling Jaya parliamentary office.

My interest in policy making started when I became active in Model United Nations in 2018, while my interest in politics has been present since the 14th General Election. Having done work for an NGO and also having viewed the academic side of policymaking during my time in university, I decided to take a plunge and learn about politics first-hand through this internship.

I came into this stint with the intention of learning about policy making, constituency management, party politics and parliamentary affairs. Though my time in parliament, the constituency office and a by-election campaign I have gotten a good feel for all 4 of these areas so far and am looking forward to what the rest of the internship has in store.

Francis

Intern

My name is Francis, and I am an upcoming second-year law student at the University of Malaya. During my first year, I had the privilege of knowing YB Lee Chean Chung. Serving as the External Relations Officer for the UM Law Society, I witnessed firsthand how Yb’s support significantly alleviated our financial constraints for hosting large-scale events. Although my interactions with YB were limited to events where he was a VIP, he left a lasting impression. His vision and reform ideas, particularly on sustainability and public transport, have inspired me deeply.
Living in Petaling Jaya for the first time has been an eye-opening experience, providing me with a fresh perspective on urban living and the importance of sustainable practices. As an intern, I am eager to immerse myself in the local community, both directly and indirectly.
Through my internship, I hope to contribute to advancing the concept of PJ Lestari, promoting sustainable practices within Petaling Jaya, and extending these ideas to the broader context of Malaysia.

Misha Madinah

Intern

Greetings! I’m Misha Madinah, an incoming 2nd year law student at the University of Leeds.

When my team and I emerged as champions for the Malaysian Law Student Network’s Policy Case Competition, we earned the opportunity to intern with the sponsors of the competition, one of whom is YB Lee himself.

I chose to intern with YB Lee not only because I was a Petaling Jaya local, but also because of YB Lee’s progressive and unique vision. His commitment to sustainability and national reformation is inspiring, and deeply resonates with me.

I am highly active in law student organisations, serving as the Vice President of Taylor’s Mooting Society for the 2023/24 term and the Director of Outreach & Publicity for the Malaysian Law Student Network for the 2024/25 term. Additionally, I am an editor for the International Asian Law Student Association (ALSA) and a student writer for the UK-based Student Lawyer organisation, which provides a free repository of information for aspiring lawyers.

My burning passion for animal rights is what inspired me to embark on a legal path. As the Director of Sponsorships for the Taylor’s Animal Welfare 2024 flagship event, I secured crucial donations for the FurryKids SafeHaven Animal Shelter. These experiences fueled my commitment to advocacy and leadership, which I bring to my involvement in these various organisations.

With a rich experience across multiple platforms, I hope to contribute meaningfully to YB Lee’s vision and bring a fresh perspective to the team!
