Aspirations

MY ASPIRATIONS .

A Half-Time Check-In

Having lived and worked in Petaling Jaya for decades, I’m just like many of you—embracing the energy and vibrancy of city life, while also navigating its daily challenges: congested commutes, aging apartment blocks, poorly maintained public parks, urban pollutions, and the constant search for meaning and opportunity in our everyday lives.

During the campaign, I shared four core ASPIRATIONS—visions I believe can drive real, tangible change in our community, our city, and ultimately, our nation. These aspirations continue to guide our efforts.

As we reach the halfway mark of this parliamentary term, my team has conducted a mid-term review to account for the work we’ve done over the past two years. Progress has been made, but it’s clear: without your voice and participation, lasting change is much harder to achieve.

That’s why we’re inviting you to step up and be part of the movement. Join us as a PJLestari volunteer—and together, let’s shape the future of Petaling Jaya.

National Reformation

To formulate national economic, industrial and technological policies based on the principle of comparative advantage in order to identify the main direction of national development based on the economic structure and level of development.

To champion the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and enacting specific policies for SMEs to maximize their potential in line with the experience of Germany, Japan and Taiwan.

To lobby for the establishment of a Special Select Committee on Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Parliament, and continue to support the drafting of acts related sustainable development such as the Transboundary Haze Act and others.

Sustainable Transport & Amenities

Improve the first-and-last mile connectivity and public transportation, such as using vans, pedestrian walk-ways and bicycle lanes, as well as allowing the usage of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) like Beam through regulation and supporting infrastructure. App development should be supported to improve custom- ers’ service level.

Collaborate with state and local governments so that any developments are based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net-zero emissions.

Encourage the construction, upkeeping and upgrading of sports and recreational facilities. Add more greening projects, and organize hobby/interest workshops for the elderly.

Dignifying the Youth group through PJ UP!

To empower SMEs such as hawkers, small traders and online sellers through a series of branding, marketing, product development and innovation training.

For this purpose, a startup hub called PJ Up! offering entrepreneurial guidance services, loan financing advisory & training will be established to assist youths and entrepreneurs.

High-value courses such as solar panel installation, video editing, smart home installation will be offered at night/weekends to gig workers, youths and adults so that they are employable hopefully at the salary range of above RM3,000.

Harmonious Community

To set up a consultative council in the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary seat with members of the management committee, residents’ associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and activists.

To intensify the youth empowerment program through the organization of workshops at the regional and international level in collaboration with international NGOs.

To increase programs with the community to foster the spirit of unity, neighbourhood, and #KitaBantuKita

National Reform: Highlights

  • Opposed the privatization of Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP), which channels 50% of MBPJ’s revenue to a private concessionaire without transparency and contrary to the spirit of the Road Transport Act. I proposed improving current collection rates before considering any form of privatization.
  • Objected to the PJD Link highway due to its detrimental impact on local livelihoods and the opaque concession award process. I advocated for immediate improvements in public transport connectivity as an alternative.
  • Expressed strong reservations regarding the Urban Renewal Bill to prevent gentrification. I emphasized the need for rejuvenation initiatives combined with a strong social housing program to protect the rights and livelihoods of both owners and tenants, particularly from low-income groups. (Statements on 22 March 2025 and 26 August 2025)
  • Radically proposed returning Kuala Lumpur to Selangor, envisioning a more democratic, efficient, and seamlessly governed metropolitan Kuala Lumpur. (5 September 2023)
  • Supported progressive legislative reforms, including:
    • The Parliamentary Services Bill 2024
    • Amendments to the Audit Act to allow auditing of statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs)
    • The Government Procurement Bill 2025

Climate Change

  • Supported the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill 2024
  • Advocated for the exploration of wind energy (25 May 2023) and cross-border electricity trading via Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025

Human Rights

  • Supported increasing funding for the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) from RM10 million to RM20 million
  • Endorsed the Consumer Credit (Finance) Bill 2025 to better regulate credit providers and protect borrowers

SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises)

  • Proposed the SME Tariff Shock Buffer Fund to provide low-interest loans and subsidies amid global economic tensions (5 May 2025)
  • Suggested the relocation of SME Corp under MITI and an expanded role for MATRADE to enhance SME export initiatives (5 May 2025)
  • Outlined five economic stimulus measures on 5 May 2025:
    • Wage subsidies for high-value jobs
    • Opening GLC projects to private investment
    • Issuing new banking licenses to boost SME financing
    • Streamlining approval processes for economic projects
    • Reducing dependency on low-skilled foreign labour
  • Proposed a decentralized, industry-led training model and tax exemptions for private training providers as a replacement for HRD Corp (7 August 2024)
  • Highlighted the inefficiencies of fragmented SME support programs and called for integration under an expanded SME Corp for better coordination (15 November 2023)

Sustainable Transport and Amenities
Public Transport

Completed Pedestrian Walkway to MRT Phileo Damansara Enhances First-Last Mile Connectivity

Funded by MBPJ with an allocation of RM200,000, the newly completed pedestrian walkway is expected to benefit 5,000–8,000 commuters. It provides a safer and more accessible route to the station and encourages greater public transport usage. (20 May 2025)

Proposed Motorcycle E-Hailing Pilot to Boost First- and Last-Mile Connectivity

Drawing inspiration from successful models in Bangkok and Jakarta, motorcycle e-hailing services could significantly enhance public mobility while creating new income opportunities within Malaysia’s growing gig economy. I proposed Petaling Jaya as a pilot location should the government decide to test the viability of motorcycle e-hailing through a sandbox initiative. (27 November 2024)

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Promoting Sustainable Waste Management Through Community Composting Initiatives
In collaboration with green tech company Maeko, we sponsored 160 kg of organic compost for four community gardens in Petaling Jaya in conjunction with World Environment Day. The compost, produced from 800 kg of recycled food waste, helps divert organic matter from landfills and supports urban farming. I emphasized the importance of food waste recovery and composting, and advocated for government policies that transform waste into valuable, eco-friendly resources. (2024 & 2025)

Organized E-Waste and Used Cooking Oil Recycling Initiatives
Led a series of recycling and awareness workshops promoting the 4Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repurpose—to encourage sustainable waste management and community involvement. (2024 & 2025)
