Emily Fua Jia Yi
Intern
Greetings, I’m Emily Fua Jia Yi, a recent law graduate from the University of London. I am passionate about law, governance, and public service, and I aspire to use my legal knowledge to connect policies with the people they affect.
My internship at the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Office was a meaningful experience that opened my eyes to both the policy-making process and realities on the ground. I prepared debate materials, drafted questions, and researched issues like energy transition, human rights, immigration, and education, while engaging directly with the community. Supporting senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and low-income families, alongside coordinating youth and sustainability programmes, gave me a deeper appreciation of how law and policy shape daily life.
Previously, I gained practical exposure through internships at law firms, working on dispute resolution, corporate, IP, housing, and competition law. Beyond this, I held leadership roles in KPUM, ALSA, and MLSN, organising initiatives that strengthened youth engagement and collaboration, and inspired me to contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s legal and political landscape.

P105: A Journey to Remember
Walked through the river of time and met my high school self again—the one who was passionate about parliamentary debate, organising and emceeing school events.
During these three weeks, I witnessed the everyday lives of the rakyat, and the moments where our laws are shaped and debated. It was the first time I truly saw the roles I could play in society beyond what we’re taught in law school.
On a more personal note, it was also a quiet reminder of what a privilege it is to pursue tertiary education as a first-generation university student. When your life has once been touched by the unsung heroes, the idea of giving back to society hits differently.
Thank you to YB Chean Chung for the opportunity to be attached to Pusat Khidmat Rakyat Parlimen Petaling Jaya, and to everyone I met along the way—for the guidance, the laughter and the beautiful conversations.
To the days I’ll reminisce.
Eunice Lim Shuen Hui
Intern
Hello! My name is Eunice Lim Shuen Hui, an A-Levels graduate who pursuing a degree in Economics at university. Outside my studies, I serve as a Deputy Director in the Association of Malaysian Economics Undergraduates, and am also a dancer and assistant leader in my youth group.
Having grown up in PJ, I have recognised the importance of well-researched and sustainable policies for Malaysia’s development, and was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to that vision through my internship. This experience revealed many gaps in my understanding of Malaysia and its governance, allowing me to learn more about the community within PJ and the behind-the-scenes workings of a political office. From drafting YB’s parliamentary debate speeches to leading a market research project on revitalising PJ Old Town to supporting the work of the Pusat Khidmat, I learned firsthand how the heart and values of a leadership team are crucial in driving meaningful change.
My internship was one that was filled with growth and insightful learnings, which I will carry forward in the years ahead. Through genuine conversations with the community members and a deeper understanding of their concerns, I am inspired to continue contributing to impactful change in many more ways!

Jeremy is an advocate who raises awareness for public health issues. He holds a master’s degree in public health from Kyoto University and master’s degree in food safety from National Taiwan University. After studying overseas for 7 years, he decided to permanently return to Malaysia to contribute to his motherland. The flight announcement, “To all Malaysians, welcome home,” still echoes in his mind until today.
He commenced his career in Malaysia by joining a research team that collaborates with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to develop a blueprint for the National Health Literacy Policy framework. During his work, he received feedback from stakeholders and the community who believed that these policies were mere paperwork and would never materialize. This realization led him to conclude that he should work with policymakers to keep the momentum going.
Consequently, he joined the Petaling Jaya parliamentary team, where he immersed himself in learning about policy implementation and collaborated directly with the community to make a social impact.
“Go big, or go home” is his motto, and he hopes to transform from being nobody to somebody in the future.
